Police are trying to identify a man who robbed a BB&T bank at 1344 N. Great Neck Road this morning shortly before noon.

At 11:47 a.m., a man walked into the bank, displayed a handgun and demanded money, a Virginia Beach police news release said. The clerk handed him $3,800 in cash, according to a police report filed online, and the robber fled on foot toward a shopping center parking lot.

He was described as white; in his mid- to late 30s; 5 foot 8 or 5 foot 9; and wearing a shoulder-length wig, black baseball cap, black sunglasses, white button-up shirt and jeans.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the Crime Line at (888) LOCK-U-UP (562-5887).

Pilot writer Kathy Adams contributed to this report.
