A Virginia Beach woman died in a crash Saturday afternoon while riding with friends to Smith Mountain Lake.
Diane Patricia Sullivan was a passenger in the car during the crash. She was flown to MCV Hospital in Richmond where she later died, according to her obituary. No additional details about the crash were available Tuesday night.
Virginia State Police did say earlier on Tuesday that preliminary reports indicated eight people died in crashes statewide over the holiday weekend. Two of the fatal crashes were in Warren County, a motorcyclist died in a Prince Edward County crash and the other traffic deaths occurred in Bedford, Highland and Washington counties.
A graduate of Kempsville High School, Sullivan had worked at Atlantic Shores Retirement Center and the Chesapeake Free Clinic, where she was a volunteer coordinator. She also attended Key Business College.
Her family is receiving friends at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The funeral will be conducted Friday at a11 a.m. in the chapel, with a burial following in Rosewood Memorial Park.
