Former WAVY-TV weatherman Jon Cash dispelled rumors Thursday about being fired from his job at the station.
The rumors, that Cash was fired because of a conflict between his work schedule and his personal religious ministry, have circulated on Facebook and other websites since he announced last week on his site that he was let go.
“That’s just false,” Cash said during a broadcast Thursday on Positive Hit Radio The Current, a local religious station. Part of the broadcast was aired in a story on WTKR-TV late Thursday night.
“I want to tell everybody everything and let the chips fall where they may,” Cash said. “But there’s people a lot smarter than me that say, ‘this is what you do and this is what you don’t do.’ “
Cash wrote on his ministry website earlier this week that he plans to tell the nation why he was fired during a live broadcast next month.
For now, his site says, he was fired for “no just reason.”
He also wrote, "We are watching fellow brothers and sisters get fired for their faith in our God, or for our founding principles.” He went on to write, “Freedom cost me my job.”
He did not discuss Thursday whether his faith may have played a role in his leaving the station.
“I never talked about my faith on the air, at least, I can never remember that,” Cash told the station. “I was always the type of person that you do not do that.”
Cash told WTKR that he has “no unforgiveness” about being let go from the job he held for more than 20 years. He said he misses weather forecasting and the station’s viewers, but is happy to pursue his ministry full-time. Doug Davis, WAVY’s general manager, confirmed last week that Cash was no longer working there, but declined to give details.

What happened to the
What happened to the national TV address he planned to further comment on this?
Jon Cash was the only reason I watched WAVY 10
I could care less if Jon Cash were a Christian.... He was a nice guy. He was the only reason I watched WAVY 10 in the morning. Guess I will be watching the Channel 3 morning show from now on....
Whinnnnnnnny
I remember how everyone either quit or was fired when he began on WAVY. I have listened to him whine and often I wished I had some cheese to give him. Oh and thoses ridiculous jokes and riddles we had to suffer through for years. I wondered from day one how long this guy would last.....20 years too long. I wish WAVY had all the people back that he never got along with and he caused them to leave. They were true newscasters .. he needs to be a preacher..Yep God has a plan for us all.. Thank WAVY now I can watch the show again after all these years and not have to hear his winey voice..... Thank You GOD
Jon Cash
A bit of advice Jon Boy, take the unexpected time that God has provided you and work [hard] on improving your tennis game. Trust me you need to. I've seen you play.
Tell the nation?
Is anyone listening to this guy? He says he will "Tell the Nation" on why he was fired? Does he really believe the "Nation" gives a crap? He and his followers on this forum seem to be throwing around his 'religion' as if that is what got him canned. I never had a feeling one way or another about this guy. Now his little temper tantrums and whining like a 5 year old are showing more of this guy's real character and I can see why the station wanted to get the heck away from him. If he really believes in God, then why was he devoting so much time TV weather reporting and not full time soul Savior? Maybe God got him fired!
TV Stations Don't Put Up With Much
I have to agree. Having been a fan of several TV shows, I can tell you the ones that have problems between cast, crew or writers/producers are usually the ones that don't come back for a second season. If he was whiny or pushing a religious agenda in any way (behind the scenes, as an excuse for time off) I could easily see the station letting him go. There are millions of people who want to be on TV and who will do it without any drama. I say stop whining and get on with life. If you are truly one with God, he'll always make sure you are exactly where you are supposed to be, regardless of the road you travel to get there.
Didn't Doug Davis also fire
Les Smith and Jim Lawrence ?
Starting to see a pattern here......
We all miss Jon
The children miss Jon too. They looked forward to hearing him give the weather report each morning and seeing his snowflake. He did have a way of making weather intresting too them. 13 news must have good ratings these days.
Some Thoughts....
People get fired all the time. My favorite weather person WAVY ever had was Jim Lawrence and he was canned quickly, like Jon, and with no reason that I ever discovered or heard about. One day there and one day not. I do not remember him posting blogs and making public announcements about his ordeal. He got replaced by a younger (maybe more "hip")person. That is tv folks. To Jon I say forget about WAVY and dedicate yourself to what seems to be your true love. I have been told that if one finds what one truly loves to do and commits to doing it, the rest will fall into place. I have not found that one thing yet and I presume some never do. You seem to have found it. Take your blessing and run with it. Good luck to you!!!
wondering...
Is 'unforgiveness' a real word?
