ROANOKE
Virginia store owners say dwindling cotton supplies are driving up prices for items such as jeans, khaki pants, shirts and dresses.
Cotton supplies are down due to growing demand in developing countries and recent crop damage from bad weather in China.
Winter Hodges is owner of a boutique in downtown Roanoke. He tells The Roanoke Times that every manufacturer he deals with has advised him of price increases on products made from cotton.
Hodges says he expects an additional 10 percent price increase on new denim orders, adding to the 10 percent increases made by manufacturers earlier this year.

Cotton
Sounds like this would be a good crop for VA & NC to invest in instead of tobacco. No health issues either.
Once you go thrift store,
you'll never go back.

Cotton
Everything going up but wages
10%?
Im surprised its only 10%. Be glad consumers!
I buy cotton fabric wholesale from placed like Robert Kaufman and Michael Miller. Wholesale prices went up at least 20%!
It is true though, the cotton growth did awful this last season. Maybe next season it will bounce back and prices will go back down. ROFL! RIGHT!
Retailers can't just raise
Retailers can't just raise prices anymore without coming up with some excuse to justify it.
And they also cannot resist
And they also cannot resist raising the prices of items already in stock! I'll be surprised if the prices of items on the clearance racks don't go up too!
