Poker..at first
I haven't gone down to the ocean front after sunset in many years. It's already become a haven for thugs, addicts & bullies.
Say what?
If you haven't gone down to the oceanfront after sunset in many years, then how would you know? I lived down there for years and never had a problem. Not that problems don't exist, but it's not as you assume it to be. There are far worse issues in other areas of VB and the rest of Hampton Roads. I'd prefer to live at the oceanfront (where I still own a condo) over Kempsville, where I now live, any day. Just gotta get the hubby on board.
POKER
No because why should a select few hold the keys to gambling? Why not cafe poker, same thing. First we start at the oceanfront playing video poker then a push for cafes then a push for riverboat gambling. WHY NOT JUST LEGALIZE POKER PERIOD? "Why keep playing around with it." Come on people just do it. Then we can be a big city poverty stricken and poor just like the rich people want us. Is this all that the restaurants can think about. I guess businesses are just saving up to pay little prizes for the money. Do you really think people come to Virginia Beach to play video poker, I already do this at home from my computer and my winning prize is I can have fun and it costs nothing. Either you want a casino or not.
Virginia Tourism. . .
... is for the whole family, I believe. If hotel/motel video gambling is a sport for the whole family, then I approve. Think about it. . . This is a family friendly resort region, right?

What's the name of the game?
The game/s, "gambling" has as its sole purpose to fleece the unknowing population who can ill afford to gamble away their money - all for a song and a prayer without a lottery's chance of going away with a profit. All for a few dollars in the city/region's coffers, along with a price tag of greater crime and a broker population during a time of serious recession.
Taking advantage of simple people trying to bet their way out of a recession is simply wrong. I urge you, don't do it.
I didn't know
And here I thought all along that the Lottery was to benefit the school system!
the same could be said about tithing
Every statement you jus made could be said about tithing at a church. Even worse some cult leaders promise many rewards if you just give an offering.
I voted no
because this should not be about tourism. Go big. There is a great area off Dam Neck that would hold a beautiful casino like Charles Town, which is ever growing. I'm happy to have spend my last 3 anniversaries there. Save for a year, spend your hotel, food, gas and fun money in W Virginia. Quite a pleasant ride. They have shut off online poker for us, closed the internet cafes and who knows what else. The buses aren't coming for a poker slot. Those aren't the busiest machines when we go. Table games are, as well as a multitude of slots. And guess what, I didn't feel a criminal element outside the casino, security is awesome. Busloads go in like a resort, spend spend spend, have fun, get on bus or in car and go home. Go big VB or go away
Yes, but--
I can't wait to see what kind of convoluted rules and regs would be put out by the state on something like this. Sorta like the no liquor sales by the drink unless eating is a primary function of the establishment. How would a version of the ABC rules be written?
