Why not investigate why so many cops waste EVERYONE's time and money on speeding tickets, while the area has a ridiculuously high crime rate.

Keep Up With Traffic

At 55mph, that will leave you behind the traffic, add the extra 10mph to stay with traffic is okay, just don't drink and drive and stay off the cell phones (reckless driving) will allow for smooth traffic flow. Then the Police will get you.

speed kills, but bad enfiorcement does too

There is a strong correlation between speed and fatality in pedestrian and bicycle wrecks, and allowing a "cushion" before enforcement makes what should be a safe speed and makes it fatal. @20MPH and below you have about a 5% chance of dying when hit by a motor vehicle, with the majority of deaths being head injuries. @30MPH you have a 50% chance of dying if you're a pedestrian or cyclist struck by a motor vehicle, with death about equally distributed between upper torso trauma and head injury. That 10 MPH "cushion" killed 45% more people (actually more, because wrecks go up as available reaction time goes down). Simple physics says that allowing a "cushion" is bad with the larger cushion killing more people.

Seems to me

That your argument is the perfect reason why bikes don't belong on roads where the speed limit is above 25 mph

Enforcement?

The last time I drove through Emporia I was warned beforehand about their "0 tolerance" policy for speeding. Don't know if it is still that way, but it seemed to work for them.

waste

I would rather see an officers "protect and serve" patrolling neighborhoods to deter “breaking and enter”, “home invasions” rather than loading up the courts bank accounts. After seeing that Castle in Chesapeake, no wonder the officer’s time is wasted in handing out tickets for small infractions, like speeding. It’s concerning to see an officer sitting on the side of the road taking radar, while someone’s home is being broken in to. I would rather see an officer ride through my neighborhood 3 times a day, rather than once a week. Another waste is those red light cameras at put at the most monetary intersections and not the most accident prone intersections. With that money for the install and maintenance they could install turn lanes to

The Pilot should ticket this reporter

This article is useless because it serves no purpose. The fact that the police don't ticket every person who drives beyond the posted speed limits every time is obvious and needs no reporting because there is no practical solution. Does the reporter think that the state or every city/county in VA has the resources to hire enough police to stop every motorist driving above the posted speed limit? Does the reporter think that the local Traffic Courts are prepared to increase their dockets by adding thousands of more cases for driving 2mph over the posted speed limit when the General Assembly has refused to fill judicial vacancies around the state? Please spend time investigating issues that allow some practical resolution. What a waste!

Move over, Rover!

Correction: Clogging the passing lane(Driving While Stupid).....cell phone usage...speeding...drunken driving...the list goes on & on!

THE POLICE ARE DOING A FINE JOB

cutting drivers some slack for few miles over the limit is a good decision for everyone, sometimes the flow of traffic is higher than the posted limit at certain times of the day , I believe in a residental area, it should have a tighter margin , people in tidewater will whine about everything , remember all the police will be out working this holiday ,keeping us all safer while you all are standing in front of your barbies , flipping burgers , happy labor day

I agree. If it's not broke

I agree. If it's not broke don't fix it. I think the police are doing a wonderful job at what I'm sure is a very thankless experience.
