Good Memories

We weren't military, but I learned how to swim 40 years ago at the indoor pool at Ft. Monroe. I have many fond memories of Ft. Monroe. Its sad it will now be commercialized.

Dog Beach

Years ago when I was a kid we used to go to Dog Beach on Ft. Monroe but they eventually closed it to the public - I believe the reason was they said it had buried ammunition from long ago. By the picture, it doesn't look like there is much of a beach left but will it be open again?

Kayak Launch?

I launch my kayak by dropping it into the nearest available water and paddling. Not really a needed expense.

pristine

Well, now that it is open to the public you can wave good bye to a "pristine" beach.

Fort Monroe

FMA. Be creative and conservative, bold and gentle, patient and efficient, sensitive and decisive.
Whatever you do, don't end up with a boring site and a financial burden. that has been done before.

Good luck

Caught many of a fat flounder off that little t-pier you see in the foreground to the right of the Chamberlin. It was built atop of an old confederate pier in which you can still see the old underwater pilings.

Just in time

As a resident of Buckroe Beach, I'm looking forward to
walking down the beach into the fort without being blocked
by a fence. Fort Monroe's beach is one of the most pristine
on the east coast. I'm glad it's happening now, while
I'm still around to enjoy it.

Yep, all the riff raff will

Yep, all the riff raff will be coming down from Buckroe to destroy Monroe.

The only reason Monroe has been kept "pristine" is because the military was there.

You dont have to believe me. Go out to Buckroe on a saturday afternoon to see what I mean. Nowadays the only decent places around are the ones left on the military installations. Sad but true.
