only when prople are free can they be secure

"This and no other is the root from which a tyrant springs; when he first appears he is a protector."

"Always there has been some terrible evil at home or some monstrous foreign power that was going to gobble us up if we did not blindly rally behind it."
Douglas MacArthur

"In most communities it is illegal to cry "fire" in a crowded assembly. Should it not be considered serious international misconduct to manufacture a general war scare in an effort to achieve local political aims?"
Dwight D. Eisenhower

So right on....

Amen Brotha or Sistah. Here is a handicap for those that do not realize what they are thinking..... these folks you mention, those quotes were not in our history books to remember! The Progressives have taken over our schools since the 50's.... and created this bs of it all! Nudging us into a corner.... and those that know the facts... COULD be first in line w/this new bill! It throws the 5th & the 6th article of our constitution right out the window!

You're blaming

the wrong folks. Progressives are leading the protests to defend the Constitution and demand representative government "of by and for the People". It's reactionaries that have polluted and censored our history and language and who have created the National Security State.

Poorly Worded Poll

Sure, we don't want to go easy on "terrorists" but this bill effectively hands over control to the military to arrest, torture and even kill terrorists on American soil. It also allows the military to hold suspected terrorists indefinitely without a trial or due process. This applies to both non-citizens and citizens of the United States! With this bill, you are not innocent until proven guilty. You are guilty until proven innocent, and you may never get a trial to defend yourself. There is surprisingly little written in the mainstream media about this Senate bill that passed 93 to 7 at the end of November. And who is a terrorist? That is up to the President or to secret unaccountable committees.

You've identified the problem...

Personally, I've no problem with the military arresting, torturing or killing terrorists on American soil". My problems with the bill fall in two areas: (i) the fact that, while the coverage of American citizens under this bill is discretionary rather than required (as a result of the purported "fix" belatedly made) it should be prohibited; (ii) as you said "who is a terrorist? That is up to the President or to secret unaccountable committees." If one is a veteran, supports the 2nd Amendment, believes in limited government, opposes unrestricted abortion"rights" or has bumper stickers some folks don't like, you may be "disappeared". That's just plain unacceptable.

Shocked at the Yes votes, read exactly what Congress is passing

Media is NOT reporting this and everyone who voted yes should actually read the bill Congress is passing and how ambiguous it is. Be careful with what you agree with...you may be deemed a "terrorist" in the future with no just cause and held indefinitely. You'd really agree to just hand over your freedom so freely?

Sixth Amendment to the US Constitution

"In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence." - Sixth Admendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Do we not have any respect for the Constitution anymore?

What is wrong w/these Yes votes!

My God, what in the world are you thinking! It is clear that no one remembers our Great manual, the U.S. Constitution!!! Oh yeah, that's right.., the Progressives believe it is old, does not work. Therefore, it must be erased from history. Be very careful what you ask for, you might end up in jail w/no rights... kinda like Sharia Law!
I guess sharpening the gilateen could be a new career for some folks?
LORD, is this so post Hitler/Musilini days or what!?! Pray folks, pray like you have never have before. The Progressives love to demonstrate in town squares; keep it's people in check of fear! total control thru Governmental power.
I will say this one more time, read Rules for Radicals, Sal Alinski & the Communist manifesto.

chill, the constitution is for. . .

...Americans - not foreign terrorists who wish to overthrow our freedom inspired way of life. You elected a President to manage our military and decide what is right. Give our Commander in Chief a little breathing room.

Slippery Slope

"Unnerving many conservative Republicans and liberal Democrats, the legislation also would deny suspected terrorists, even U.S. citizens seized within the nation's borders, the right to trial and subject them to indefinite detention."

Even “U.S. citizens seized within the nation’s borders” - who are entitled to the protections afforded by the Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Amendments the Constitution of the United States - can be detained.

It is one thing when the prisoner is a foreigner; it is another when they are U.S. Citizens. When you start down that slippery slope of denying constitutional rights, you eventually wind up with a Dictatorship and no rights.

Military Law Enforcement

This is a terrible idea. I am ashamed that two Republicans introduced this bill. To be held indefinately because of suspicion, no warrants, no notice access to our homes. We stopped military law enforcement due to the mess after the civil war occupation/repatriation and now we open the door to a military coup. What a country we have become.

Once again the rantin right should stop nwaving their

Once again the rantin right should stop waving their little pocket constitution and take the time to read it. The republican party can no longer claim to be the party of limited government, the party of the constitution. Its kinda funny that Romney is castigate as being a flip flopper, or on both sides of the issue, when he is just doing what the whole part is doing.

Military Judge and Jury

Please be careful of what you ask for. This might lead to all of the people that the GOV, ie; NSA CIA FBI DOHS, does not like being labled as a terrorist. If that happens you do not have any rights under this bill. It all starts with little things like this and the next thing you know you have given away all of your rights. It does not matter if you are a Dem or Rep, you will give away your rights and they will be more than happy to take them.

For your own safety of course.
