Poll Question

Posted to: News Opinion PilotOnline.com

After getting over-charged by Dominion Power, would you prefer a full refund or a discount on future bills?

Don't be so easily duped, people!

It amazes me how easily people will let media push their buttons. There is NO overcharge until the SCC says there's been one. They have yet to rule. The Attorney General's office has intervened on the part of the consumer and negotiated a reduction in the PROPOSED rates. Hearings will be held in January. The SCC staff has done an analysis, but the SCC will hear from Vepco, the AG, consumer advocates, businesses and everyone during these hearings. The SCC will then rule, having scrutinized all the facts, Vepco profits, etc. The proposed rate increase -- the first base rate increase in 17 years for Vepco customers began Sept. 1, subject to the approval of the SCC. NO increases in our rates can happen without their stamp of approval. The so-called 'refunds' the Pilot has hyped so many into buying into will be so miniscule, you won't be able to know you got it!

refund

Having worked in power plants I can assure everyone out there that they do make a hefty profit on electrical power. The cost to generate per megawatt(about 135.00) versus the consumer cost per megawatt(about 1200.00)should make anyone realize that there should be a cap on profits. They say its because of high maintance costs but when is the last time you saw anyone working on the high lines (Distribution system).Once in place these systems can go 30 years with no repairs.Pay up and fire the goverment watchdogs who are there to guard against this kind of thing.

Interesting

It's interesting people raise such a stink over a few dollars a month when the government is ripping them off for hundreds of times more than that.

Indeed

The scale of money involved in the current government ripoff is huge. Check this video out if you haven't seen it, it's enlightening:

I think it's because we so

I think it's because we so rarely see who is doing the overcharging and exactly what and how they have done it. I suspect that if we could do that with other government programs we would. It's much better when we can point the finger with precision.

Either way

Either way, we, the paying customers are still going to come out the losers. Dominion Power gets away with this, without having to pay the full amount and without suffering any penalties. This shows the power (pun intended) of a monopoly in a state that has a regulatory body that has no back bone whatsoever.

How about a full refund AND

How about a full refund AND future discounts... I was told all increases were due to our consumption. I have a 1700 sf home with oil heat and wood burning stove. Approx. 18 months ago my monthly "budget" went from $210 to $489. When I called dom. I was told our usage increased. How does ones usage increase 110% ???? Dominion Power should be ASHAMED.

Why not free

Hey, why not free! Nothing should cost anything. We're all being screwed by everyone!

Full Refund with interest?

For those who want the full refund with interest will you agree to paying the full amount all at once with interest the next time they under charge us? Just something to think about.

I'll take that chance.

Good point, but I have NEVER been "under"charged by Dominion. I'll take that chance.
