Do you agree with the decision by Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation to reinstate funding for Planned Parenthood affiliates?

komen did not restore funding, no matter what lie they said
komen has put out so much dis information it is hard to know what is true. The last I heard was that they never cut off funding already approved, they had cut off next years funding. They denied a request for next years funding, originally because of the bogus "investigation in the republican house by a republican congressman citing the okeef fiasco. What changed was that investigation requirement was strengthened and now Planned Parenthood could re-apply for the already denied grant. If republicans can try to say a toll is not a tax, I guess they can say alowing a group to re-apply is restoring.
Susan G Komen Foundation
As a business owner I have been asked to donate time and money to the Komen Foundation. However, due to the alliances that the Komen Foundation have with Planned Parenthood, I cannot in good conscience donate to them. Someone mentioned a comparison to Phillip Morris that while it produced cancer causing cigarettes they also owned a food company, so why not buy the good products that they make. If I feel one area of your business or charitable organization is off the bubble, I don't do business with the other divisions. It's that simple.
So, while I support efforts to promote women's ( and men's ) health, I can't support abortion as defined by Planned Parenthood and that is why I have never supported the Komen Foundation.
Do Not Challenge
the left wing sacrament of abortion. Such heresy will be dealt with swiftly.
Politics
Those Dixie girls tried to play politics, haven't heard from the since that night the ran their mouth.
If you're not a politician, don't jump on what one politician is threatening your company. They change their views on a daily basis, determined by who pays the most at that minute. And to single out just one group made this political. This whole mess makes them look like they're political. They should have stayed with their concept of helping women.
AND NOW: THE REST OF THE STORY
Seems like Komen hired Ari Fleischer, George W. Bush's Press Secretary, to craft a strategy to dump PP. So he interviewed and hired Karen Handel, who ran for Georgia Governor on an anti-abortion platform, to do the dirty deed. I hope Komen gets a refund on their consulting fee. Yes, Komen can do as they please with Donor money, but when they do stuff like this to appease the nutso theocrats, they won't be doing it with MY money any more. I'm donating directly to PP now....
No difference
It is totally up to Komen Foundation to decide what they do with their money and it is totally up to individuals whether to contribute to them based on what they do with their money. In this case they must have counted they would lose more money than they would gain so they reversed their decision...make no mistake....the decision was solely based on money. Could it be they learned this from Washington politicians?
true enough...
It is up to the Komen Foundation to decide what to do with "their" money. However since I give TO the Koman charity, it is also MY money. And as I called and told them. If they do not support women's health and Planned Parenthood, I no longer support them. Take me off of your donation call list. And NO I will NOT donate or run in the "race for a cure" now. I can donate to other women's health charities without them. Let the Komen center cease to exist then.
Mission accomplished!
You won't be supporting Komen and neither will I! I wasn't even aware that they gave money to Planned Parenthood or I wouldn't have given to them in the past. I naively thought they were simply a supporter of breast cancer research. So, I'm very glad to hear that this fiasco has cut their support on both sides of the fence.
Poorly worded question, Pilot
Suggestion: Instead of asking this question like you did, which accentuates people's differences and polarizes your readers on the hot-button issue of abortion (the basis of this whole discussion), why not ask:
"Do you agree and support both Komen's and Planned Parenthood's programs on breast cancer awareness and detection, both of which are designed to save women's lives?"
Questions like that might help accentuate what's important, and what both organizations are striving to do. So help us out here, Pilot --- Lord knows we get plenty of red meat thrown at us from other news sources.
laughable
It is laughable to call PP a women's health organization. Their primary focus is and always has been birth control and reproductive rights. Some support PP, other don't, but they are what they are.
