Poll Question

Do you think the conversion to mid-income apartments is the best use of the Union Mission building?

Union Mission

I voted yes, but, I must add, only as long as the missed placed people who live there are provided an alternative place to stay. Some folk have made some pretty awful comments concerning the homeless and it breaks my heart to realize what heartless and uncaring people are still in this world.
But for the grace of God go I. Anything unforeseen can happen to us to put us out on the street and so often this is overlooked. A house fire or a spouse out of work too long, etc. Please, put yourself in their place and try to understand that not all of "those people" as they are sometimes referred to, are "lazy and good for nothing bums". This is just a terrible and senseless way to refer to another human being.
If you are living in a nice, warm home with good hot food on the table and reasonably nice clothes on your back, be thankful and have some feelings for these people who have nothing through no fault of their own.

Hay I have a few questions

of the 69% or 306 of you who voted yes..how many of you would rent a space to live in this bldg..I would not..I dont care how nice they fix it up..and for what they want to charge..come on..and where would you park..dont forget there is no parking in norfolk unless you pay some one some where..there are only a few places I would not live 1 old funeral home 2 old hospital or asylum 3 grave yard 4 home for the elderly and this homeless shelter it has been a homeless shelter for so long when you think of the union mission you think of this bldg in downtown Norfolk..It will be hard to shed that name..This question will be answered in a few years..lets see how many people move in

Does it matter?

I don't think it matters what anyone thinks is the best use unless they're putting up the cash.

Its about time

Of course. If left to the city, despite what they claim, they would have just torn it down for yet another "planned" building.
