Poll Question

I am looking forward to the day

that my kids can buy a nice starter home for less than $100,000. Regardless of what the goofball realtors say, that day is coming in... oh about two or three years. Realtors. They live in a fantasy world.

Housing slump

As evident from my screen name, I sell building materials to professional builders for a living. Something I have been doing for 28 years. The current state of our business is at a low of which we have not previously seen since probably WWII. We couldn't stand for it to be any slower or our whole economy would start to collapse from the collateral job losses of the supporting industries. Furniture, carpet, electrical supplies, appliances, plumbing fixtures, paint, masonry products, lumber, roofing materials, and all the manufacturing, transporting and retailing of the components of building a home stand to take tremendous losses in the way of labor (people) and the mechanics who install them. I believe we will stay at the current level of production for 2-3 years and then lead the way out of the current recession with increased productivity. We can only hope this is a conservative view.

Prices are to High

I agree with the comment of 2cents, the incomes in this area are not comparable to the housing market, to get housing in an acceptable area the prices start at 300,000 and then go higher, that may be ok for someone that is making over 120k a year, but for the average 2 income family its out of reach, either salaries in this area are going to have to rise to a level to make home ownership affordable or at least in range or there will probably be even more homes sitting family-less. Isnt the real goal to build the home for someone to live in it????/

Market correction was needed before the bubble burst.

The market was overpriced here in comparison to salaries before the market bubble burst. There will be a long decline in housing values here before the income to debt ratio of the area is anywhere close to being back in balance. Scheduled and unforseen transfers of the military will only aggravate this situation.
