Should employees who are laid off by tax-exempt religious organizations in Virginia qualify for state unemployment benefits?

Unemployment for the Church Employees!
Come on, if it is a non-profit cause and give to the
homeless and the community, let the employees get this
benefit. I guess we now should drop the soup kitchens
and all other charity work!
Easy Answer
You don't pay taxes for unemployment benefits, you don't get unemployment benefits!
Where is this law?
I can't seem to find this law anywhere. In fact it says non-profits must pay if they pay out more than $1,500 in compensation in a quarter.

Sad
If churches are going to pay wages, rather than rely on volunteers, then they should not be exempt from all other wage laws. If they are not exempt from collecting Social Security tax and Medicare tax then they should not be exempt from unemployment taxes. Maybe in this way churches would go back to serving the communities they are in and not building these giant buildings.
Personally if I were a pastor, I would make sure that my employees stayed employeed before I would expand service programs. If it were getting that dire I would sure let the congregation hear about it every Sunday.
Such a thing
If we are going to really have a division of Church and State
Such a division would violate the Constitution. If we're going to start having divisions based on beliefs, I vote for division between Liberals and State.
Jobless Benefits for Laidoff Religious Workers
No, and it should remain so until the tax exempt status is removed from religious business organizations and unemployment taxes are paid on behalf of their workers.
No Exemption to Taxes!!
If we are going to really have a division of Church and State. All places of worship and all of their holdings should pay the same taxes as everyone else including real estate, employment and personal property they receive the same public services as all other persons, companies and corporations!
No Brainer
At least some laws are being enforced. It's good that you work for the religious side of the world. But their exemptions will affect you. Perhaps, knowing this, you might have planned for it.
