Should the federal government create a system to track and transfer child abuse or neglect cases from state to state?

Track them

Track any and all who abuse children. No excuses!

Unbelievable!

It is unbelievable that this discussion is even being done! Of course child abusers and sex offenders should be tracked from state to state! If not, all they have to do is go to another state and continue their evil, destructive behavior. For that matter, since psychologists have proven that there is no such thing as a 'rehabilitated sex offender or child molester', in the majority of casees, they should be locked up for life, that is, until they die. It would eliminate the need for tracking them in the first place.

Notification

I think another issue needs to be addressed as well. In Virginia, if a parent has a child abuse finding (no matter what level), the State cannot notify the other parent because of privacy laws. I strongly believe that the other parent should be notified. It is sad when privacy trumps the best interest of the child.

TRACKING CHILD ABUSE

It amazes me that the tracking of child abuse across state lines is still being put to a vote! You can track a person across state lines, why is tracking abuse of a child any different? What ever happen to the term APB which for those of you who do not know stood for All Points Bulletin. All points would be EVERYWHERE!! Come on guys, use your common sense...oh I'm sorry, you have a Masters Degree...for some reason they do not teach common sense with those. No disrespect intended guys, but wake up. Quit putting things like this to votes and just DO IT.

Very Sad

Looking at the sweet, innocent and smiling face shown in the photo of this precious child, is so difficult after knowing all that she has been through. I take great comfort in knowing that she is in a place where she will never suffer at the hands of another, where there will be no more tears and she will not ever again suffer at the hands of another. I pray for peace and forgiveness in the family of this little girl, including her father and step-mother. It's sad knowing that the abuse was recognized by social services and little to nothing was done. It's a fact that hurt people hurt people. The children should have been removed from this couples home after the initial incident, the father & stepmother should have been had required to attend counseling to work out the obvious unresolved hurts from their past and monitored closely before being allowed to have the children in their care.

seems like a common sense solution

Of course there should be a federal database to track these sick people from state to state. There should also be a national database for sex offenders. It just makes sense to protect the welfare of our country's children from people like this. It is so easy to commit a crime and just move to another state, where you can do the same thing over again. A national database will help stop that. Anyone against this must be sick in the head.

To do what you suggest

is a violation of the Constitution, as is the sexual offender reporting. Now you want to do it for child abusers as well. What about murderers? Con-men? Thieves? Wouldn't you want to know if they were in your neighborhood as well? What you are suggesting is taking away the state's rights to make their own laws and policies and making them federal crimes, which means that the states have no jurisdiction over these people. I agree that these people are not the kind of people I would hang around with, but if you are going to violate their rights, then you must get rid of all criminal rights.

Tracking of people isn't a violation of the Constitution

The tracking of people or business across state lines doesn't violate any part of the Constitution. It doesn't take anything away from state laws but would provide information to states about sex offenders and child abusers. According to you, the Constitution would prevent the federal government from tracking violent criminals, terrorists or illegal cargos and their movements. That issue was settled back in the 1930's and was walked all the way through the Supreme Court.

The Constitution is NOT absolute: it is open to interpretation by the courts. It is the flexibility and not the rigidity of the Constitution that makes it so powerful and enduring.

Our laws say

that once a person has served their time, their debt to society is paid and they once again become a citizen. Making them register and keeping tabs on them is a clear violation. It is a lot different than business or terrorists. The feds do not keep tabs on every violent criminal that has served their time and been released. You may want to study this topic more.

No, not the Feds!

Much as things cry out for a system to facilitate tracking these low lifes & their misdeeds from place to place, to give yet another project to the incompetent, spendaholic Feds would be counter-productive.
If past is prologue, not only would it take forever, the system would never work as advertised & the current Prez. & Congress would simply use the necessary contracts as political payback or the legislation as a vehicle on which to glom other excuses to spend.
Better the States get together amongst themselves & modify one of the existing crime databases.
