Poll Question

Should lawmakers disclose any state or local govt. income of more than $10K paid to them or immediate family members?

As representatives of the people

As representatives of the people, ALL of their sources of income should be public knowledge. That would show the people they represent exactly who is paying them for what and where their financial interests are.

It Should Be Lower!

This bill should use $5,000. as the floor for income from government sources be it state, local, or educational (really anything that is not from the private sector). The public needs to be assured that its elected officials are not passing bills that benefit themselves or family members.

Present climate

Given the present climate of corruption within the Commonwealth, not just those that make the laws, but those that enforce the laws and judge when the laws have or have not been broken, should also have to disclose. Think about it. A judge orders a property sold and than a trust purchases that property. Who are the people hidden by the shield of a trust? Judges, lawyers, law makers? Let me count the ways.

lawmakers reporting income

The question is should income be reported from state or local government and the answer would be yes! Your taxes and mine are paying the "lawmakers" salaries first and foremost and if they receive income from any other source of state or local government that would be, in my book, "double dipping" into the taxes that are paid by the citizens of this state!

those

those that voted no must be our lawmakers... I think they should report ALL of it not just that over $10,000. That means they could get payments of $9,000 and be fine.

Disclosure for All

while I would like to know where decision makers get there income, if politicians should disclose all income I think we should all do that. I would really like to see the real totals and sources of income of the CEO's and top business executives. Why not put everyone's income tax on line.

interestingly enough...

CEO's of publicly traded companies DO! Their salary and any bonuses are in the stockholder report. Hence the AIG bonus outrage, and for the same reason that politicians should have to disclose their sources of income. It makes everything above board. When your in any position to be unduly influenced and can affect others interest, I fully support disclosure. It's one of the few things I really supported Obama on. Unfortunately, he's not living up to the promise. Bummer.

Just a thought.

Politicians & Money

They should disclose any money paid to them, regardless of the amount.

A no brainer. Anytime

A no brainer. Anytime politicians feel the need not to disclose something, they only have their best interests in mind.
