Should Norfolk go ahead with the construction of a new $7.8 million headquarters for the Virginia Arts Festival?

new palaces, old bums
not that everyone is a bum;
however,
will the vote above have any influence on the city council or cashier?
PUBLIC DEBT
WHY SHOULDN'T NORFOLK BE IN THE SAME CONDITIONS AS THE OTHER CITIES THAT CAN'T MEET THEIR BILLS AND LET THE FEDERAL GOV'T BAIL IT OUT LIKE DETROIT, CHICAGO, NEW YORK, LA. (I HOPE YOU ARE SMART ENOUGH TO RECONIZE SARCASM).
NORFOLK CITY COUNCIL
THE VOTERS OF NORFOLK VOTED IN THE COUNCIL, SO BLAME YOURSELVES WHEN YOUR PROPERTY TAXES GO UP. NAME THE MEMBERS THAT VOTED TO SPEND YOUR MONIES AND GET THE LIBERAL VIRGIAN PILOT TO PRINT IT.
arts festival buiding
WHO ON CITY COUNCIL HAS THEIR PAWS IN THE OTHER 6.1 MILLION DOLLARS
Money for Arts, Not Fancy Building
$7.8 Million is a lot of money to spend on a headquarters building when the opera, symphony, and museums are struggling. If there is money to burn, it should be given directly to the arts organizations.
WHAT!!!!
I say keep the arts.....get rid of welfare and hand outs. Time to wake up people!!!
New HQ for VA Arts Festival
Funny how the City keeps telling the merchants in the Freemason Area that they have no real money to help businesses, except through loans.
It, in fact, does appear that the City can come up with a sizable amount, for just ONE business.
$7.8 Mil for the Arts Festival
YES, but only, (let me say that again) ONLY if it is expected to turn a profit in the next five years.
like it, but it's non-essential
This can be done by donations and efforts of the arts community to come up with the a large percentage of the costs within a cartain timeframe to reduce potential additional taxation to the citizens a majority of which will never set foot in it. Perhaps construction bonds or something similar. But right now fiscal restraint across the board HAS TO BE the mantra for the next 4-8 years with the whackos we have running our economy into the gorund. Not to mention our moral heritage.
I'd rather have a new courthouse
The courthouse is a priority, and it generates revenue. The planned shrine is so unneeded, but someone on the council needs a shrine for themselves.
VA Arts Fest. Building
Keep in mind that the actual location and form will be reviewed at site plan review. Unless Norfolk does not use that process.
I would have thought that Council would have asked those questions ahead of time and if a concern, return to planning commission for further review
One word.
Priorities.
