You cannot protect people from themselves. No government has any business involved in who a woman chooses to be a midwife. They can educate them selves and if a woman chooses an less qualified person, that's her responsibility.

With the exception of Cuba (if you believe the numbers they report), all those countries have 4-5 times the infant deaths of the US.

Why would anyone actually choose to have a midwife deliver at home putting not only yourself, but that of your unborn child at risk. My daughter had her child in the hospital. The midwife with the OB/GYN group was on call and came to deliver. She made my daughter push for over three hours. The baby was stuck in the birth canal. The doctor came in and performed a C-section. Thank God that she was in a hospital where it could performed quickly before something happened to both of them.

This discipline amounts to the same level as several others who wish to stand on their own with little appreciation for the untoward consequences.We in this nation have the finest medical care in the entire world..why go back to the Middle Ages to satisfy a burning desire to say,"See..I did it,it at was easy and you can do it as well"
