This whole episode gives me even less confidence of our VDOT than I had before. I am not saying that they don't need more money for maintenance and building better infrastructure but it seems that they are not using the money and resourse they already have very well. I have been told that they have gotten better over the past few years, then I wonder what they were like before this. I have decided that if a major hurricane hit this area that my family had better be prepared to ride it out right here. The fiasco on the 2nd of July brought the reality to me that I would probably not be able to leave.

Why do we need an independent investigation of the mishap of July 2. The investigation will cost thousands of dollars(wasteful,I might add) and it will take a lot of time. Vdot told the public that the pumps at all tunnels would be replaced five years ago. The only ones that were replaced were the ones at the monitor Merrimack tunnel. Where did The money go? Virginia needs to fire the head of Vdot or dismantle the whole department.

We already know it happened, and VDOT already knows it better not happen again. Sounds like more politicians trying to turn an angry citizens' mole hill into a voting mountain; and a hiding place from other mistakes.

Yes, of course, but only if it won't cost an arm and a leg and if it is necessary to justify the firing of the VDOT management responsible.

Sure, why not spend another few hundred thousand dollars to tell Hampton Roads the roads suck. How stupid can these ideas get.?

We dont need more studies, we need action. We have the MPO/MTO (whatever name the go by) that has the facts. Tell the norfolk council and mayor fraim to get out of the way and expand the silly tunnel. With expansion, an overhaul of antiquated systems will come.
