No , these Filipinos live in there own country , let their country give them a pension. Are you saying we should give all of our allies a pension
for fighting in the same war ?

If they fought for the U.S. and meet all the other qualifications that veterans of WW-II met, then they should participate. If they do not meet the same qualifications then no. This story doesn't provide enough information to really say either way. If folks are worried about the money, then they should look into Halliburton contracts and get mad about something meaningful.

No I'm sorry we should not pay them pensions....we don't have enough for our own people here at home...we fought and died for their freedom....I think they got plenty with that...we need to start thinking about the people at home that have fought for our country, they certainly deserve better than they get....we can help others, but why not help ourselves sometimes too!

Those folks fought for our country. They lost their lives just like Americans did. Of course they should be paid. Am I missing something? Why is this even a debate?!

It is funny how you attempt to play the economist. Yet economists also take into consideration this concept called "opportunity cost." The United States pays $11 billion a year in the War/Occupation of Iraq and people whine about a infinitismal fraction of that amount to fulfill a promise made to over 200,000 veterans, most of whom have already died of old age. And seriously, you complain about the concept of fairness and imply that this is merely a ploy to get the -- correct how you define us -- Filipino-American vote. Amazing considering the fact that the entire Asian American population comprise 5 percent of the U.S. population, and Filipinos make up a fraction of that! I truly suggest a little more critical thinking on your behalf and a little less essentializing.

All the people that I know that have a duel citizenship do not pay federal income tax. Why should they get $300.00 a month. This country has got to stop throwing money away. Our national debt is in the trillions. Thanks to those of you who served in the war for America, and you're now welcome to live under the security blanket that we provide for the rest of your lives. ENJOY!!!!...love America, or leave. remember J.F.K: ask not what your country can do for you, but what can you do for your country.....I served for 9 years....and get nothing...they paid me while I was serving...let it go people....smile.

This is long over due. These Filipinos fought against Japan on our behalf. They are also US Vetrans, because the Philippines was a US territory when they were recruited, promised benefits, enlisted, and fought for us.
The main people that do not want them to get compensation are the far right wingers that feel no one should pay taxes and the US will magically support its infrastructure with the money that grows on trees or found at the end of the rainbow.
It has nothing to do with "are we rich". It a matter of right and wrong. And to deny them their earned benefits is wrong.

These guys are WWII vets for cripes sake. You make it sound like they are getting rich! Let them enjoy some money for the sacrifice and help they gave our troops fighting the war. 54 million is absolutely NOTHING compared to the loot our "patriotic" leaders arrange for themselves and their buddies on the inside.
If you want to be angry about the corporate scams our leaders facilitate. Look to Washington and look to your own local government. Those are the real crooks.

That amounts to 54 million dollars a year. Are we so rich? Did we give a pension to our own veterans? Is this a ploy to garner the American-Filipino vote?
Should United States give pensions to filipinos

I Voted Yes
I wish it had another option asking if they should receive more. I would have voted yes to that as well.
Pensions
