Should Virginia Beach change its grade standards to match those elsewhere in the state?

It's not lowering standards.
It's not lowering standards. I grew up with a 10 point scale and had never even heard of the scale here at the beach until we moved here.
It might seem "tougher" to have a 94 and up be an A, but if the curriculum isn't tough, then what good is the scale? On that note, I hope the next petition is to get rid of the fuzzy Everyday Math curriculum and bring in a more rigorous curriculum like Singapore Math.
Don't Touch That Grading Scale!
Colleges and Universities know the grading scales used in all U.S. locations. In the coming year, graduating Fairfax County School students will find themselves at a disadvantage in that their grades will be worth a great deal less than they would otherwise have been - without the crutch. True academic achievement is seldom lost in this day and age of advanced technologies. Virginia Beach should not be fooled into changing it's quality standards.
Parents need to get involved
Parents need to get involved with your children"s education and see what they are studying.
MAKE THEM THE SAME
In my opinion they should be the same. With the cost of college, the money for scholarships, and the competition to get into your college of choice getting more difficult everyday, this is putting students in Virginia Beach at a disadvantage. A student can get a 94% in the class and get a B+ for thier hard work. While any other student out there gets an A. It comes down to finances in the end, and I believe this practice costs parents money.
Set the curve
I attended Kempsville, K through 12, and I felt it was simply the greatest public education I could have received. I would watch TV shows growing up that would talk about horrible public school conditions, like crumbling schools, children crammed "like sardines" into classrooms, no money for athletics or arts programs, no advanced placement courses, and standards constantly being lowered to meet expectations.
We didn't have ANY of those problems at Kempsville. Virginia Beach City's public schools are rated among the highest in the country. There are some, including President Obama's Secretary of Education, who say the answer to poor test grades in the country is to lengthen the school day, the school week, and the school year. I say the answer is to improve the quality of the education these children receive, not the quantity.
I wouldn't change a thing about the way the city runs its schools. If anything, the rest of the Commonwealth (and the country) should conform with US.

heck no
Lowering standards is not now, nor will it ever be the right answer for excellance.
IMO, the state standards
IMO, the state standards should be uniform. Virginia Beach is not special and should be made to conform with the rest of the state.
