Should Virginia voters be required to vote on a provisional ballot if they fail to produce a valid photo ID at the polls?

My question is
How do these people without ID’s make it through life? I have had to show a photo ID for: Renting an apartment, buying a house, cigarettes, alcohol, car loan, doctors office, air travel, ferry travel, getting a job, hospital administration, savings account, renting a car and probably a few more I forgot. So If I have to show an ID to do all that is it still a race thing? Is my bank racist? Are the airlines and car rental agencies racist? Is my doctor and the hospital racist? Am I racist because I have an ID? Or is the word racist another term for hidden agenda? All we are trying to do is to see that are voting process is legal. One person, one vote, Period!! Nothing racist about it, so get an ID unless you have another agenda.
Freedom curtailed again
Why do Republicans like to restrict or impede our basic rights? The poor and elderly who often do not have photo ID's and have trouble getting them will now have more trouble voting. It is another example for GOP power first... American rights and freedoms second. Individual voter fraud is almost non existent. Voter machine fraud is far more dangerous but the GOP is good at that.
Excuses excuses
You aren't guilting anyone into believing your excuses.
The fact is that America has been taking away the rights of Americans slowly for years, and giving more and more freedom to illegal immigrants.
Taxpayers are tired of being pushed around and guilted into allowing it to happen.
Times are changing, so if Granny doesn't have a photo ID (like my 93 year old Gandmother does and has all her adult life), I'd suggest you get her one.
ID to vote
If the photo IDs are free to anyone who needs one, then fine, let's do it. The only people screaming racism are those who want to keep it alive. I must show an ID at the bank, airport, to rent a car, to use my credit card and numerous other places. What makes those who refuse to get one so special? Are they poor? The state should pay for it - in fact they should pay even if you are not poor. You can not get to the DMV? Call your favorite political party - I assume they would be happy to drive you. Everything is not racism. But you if you keep yelling that it is then nothing will liberate you from it.
I Just checked
The DMV website and the cost of getting an ID for the right to exercise your constitutionally protected right to vote is $10.00. So I am guessing the Republicans are bringing back the "poll tax"! The IDs should be free of charge if you are obtaining one solely to vote. Charging for the ID amounts to a tax on voting. I would think the courts would require VA to provide ID cards free of charge. I hope the ACLU looks into this one!
Huh?
I had to read your post twice to make sure I wasn't hallucinating.
Virginia's state ID is not issued solely for the pupose of voting - it is used in many other situations where a person does not have a driver's license such as purchasing alcohol, providing ID to the police, for proving your identity to a bank, etc.
So who should pay for the employee to make the ID? Who should pay for the material/supplies to make that ID?
DMV is not in the business of issuing free IDs. The very idea is preposterous.
Republican voter suppression against black people
According to a 2005 study by UW Milwaukee Driver License Status of Voting Age Population those without state-issued photo ID who would need to obtain one to vote include:
■23% of elderly Wisconsinites over the age of 65
■17% of white men and women
■55% of African American males and 49% of African American women
■46% of Hispanic men and 59% of Hispanic women
■78% of African American males age 18-24 and 66% of African American women age 18-24
This simply tells me: ■23%
This simply tells me:
■23% of elderly Wisconsinites over the age of 65 CHOOSE NOT TO BE IN THE SYSTEM
■17% of white men and women CHOOSE NOT TO BE IN THE SYSTEM
■55% of African American males and 49% of African American women CHOOSE NOT TO BE IN THE SYSTEM
■46% of Hispanic men and 59% of Hispanic women CHOOSE NOT TO BE IN THE SYSTEM
■78% of African American males age 18-24 and 66% of African American women age 18-24 CHOOSE NOT TO BE IN THE SYSTEM
In short, these people somehow make it through life w/out a legitimate form of ID. Sure would be interesting to see if these same percentages mimic the numbers of those on welfare or those with some sort of criminal record. I'm not making assertions. Simply posing a comparative argumen
Thank you
These statistics speak for themselves.
You're welcome
Yeah - these statistics say only one thing: those people don't have driver's licenses. Period.
