What is your view on the constitutionality of the mandate that those without health insurance must buy it or face a penalty?

Medicare
I make a pretty good salary and I know how much medicare tax I have to pay. My spouse is a little older than I and draws social security and they take out medicare part B from her Social Security check. She has to have part B for my insurance to pay. The kicker is they take out more for medicare B from her social security than they take out of my payroll deduction. Tell me this is not a rip off. What happens to all the people on Social Security that has no one to have a full time job. They cannot afford insurance on a low income. They pay for it all their working life, so they will be secure, just to end up with nothing.
Is the mandate of car
Is the mandate of car insurance unconstitutional?
Car insurance is a STATE
Car insurance is a STATE requirement, not Federal. In some states you do not have to carry insurance, much the same way that liberals do not have to research a topic prior to posting. An auto accident you have could possibly affect others, not just yourself, therefore most states mandate you have insurance to ensure damages to others or property is paid for. Health Care, by contrast is something for the individual (or family) only. Therefore forcing people to buy something that is of an "individual concern" is unconstitutional, kinda like forcing someone to buy Redskin Season tickets... it should be an individual choice. Now, if someone can NOT afford health insurance, that is a different matter, this is why we need to have and improve Medicare/Medicaid.
If heathcare comes under "life and the pursuit of happieness"
If heathcare comes under "life and the pursuit of happiness" we must include all of the "pursuit of happiness" possibilities in the bill as well, such as "healthcare" and no capital punishment under the "life" part and under the pursuit of happiness part as follows: drugs, prostitution, speeding (if that makes you happy), gambling, jumping off garbage trucks speeding along the beach (if that makes you happy), etc. and the list goes on, as you get the picture.
mandate
replace the word healthcare with Chevy. say the government decided that Chevy cars were the safest and everyone was ordered to buy one. if the government can force us to create commerce where it doesn't already exist, then they can make us do just about everything.
Guess what folks?
The more this mandated health care and "penalty" for not buying in is looked into, the more shady and illegal it appears. This is proof that the Obama nuts did not read the bill prior to passing it. Now that the legal beagles are having to read it due to legal opposition by numerous states, it becomes clear that the government cannot force people to buy their poison. Can we please vote these idiots out?
Is the Medicare deduction constitutional?
We are already paying for healthcare with the Medicare deduction from our paychecks. If making insurance coverage mandatory is deemed unconstitutional, then so must be the medicare deduction.
An alternative to mandatory insurance is to require people who do not have medical insurance to pay cash in advance of their treatment. The downside to that is they might die if they were unable to pay the money up front in critical situations. Poor people are already covered my medicaid, so this would mostly impact the middle and lower-middle classes.
Or those of us with insurance can continue to supplement those without insurance in the form of higher premiums and deductables.
A single-payer system would have been the best solution.
Nope
No, that's a tax. They didn't pass a tax, as they knew that would be political suicide.
Well Said
I was going to make some of the same points but you saved me the typing. One more point may folks seem to assume that the people who don't have heath insurance don't WANT health insurance. Since the majority people don't have health insurance can't afford it we can not assume they don't want coverage. How many wealthy folks say, 'While I can afford health insurance, I just don't want to buy it. I will take my chances on never needing the health care system'
part of the problem
You went to the ER to have your temperature and blood pressure checked? Are you kidding? How irresponsible and wasteful can you get?!
