When should a referendum to gauge interest in expanding light rail to Virginia Beach be done?

THINK BEFORE YOU ACT/--
--- the question really is do you want to subsidize light rail? how much are you willing to RAISE your taxes to pay for LIGHT RAIL? you do know that it costing NORFOLK THOUSANDS EACH AND EVERY MONTH for light rail? so the question you should be asking is really how much are you willing to pay for light rail and will it help YOU? frank in va.bch.
Since the Beach pulled out
Since the Beach pulled out of LRT when the last referendum in 1999 lost, we should post the same referendum question, modified to account for the current system in place. So it should read..."Should the City Council adopt an ordinance approving the development and financing of the proposed extension of light rail transit from the Newtown Road station in Norfolk to Virginia Beach? This will gauge the voter's general support or opposition to light rail transit, but provide the flexibility to City Council to design and build a system based upon the results of the studies. Let's Vote Now!
Light rail
How about going to the Naval Base. That would solve a lot of the traffic problems and I bet the ridership would be doubled. We need the light rail to expand from Va bEach oceanfron out to the base
Yes, of course we do. All
Yes, of course we do. All the more reason to approve the extension to Virginia Beach so that when Norfolk authorizes the nxt phase from the Sentara/EVMS Medical complex past ODU to the Naval Base, we will have connected the Beach to the Naval Base. By then, the imperative of alternate transportation will not have escaped Chesapeake and I am sure they will choose to join in.
anyone who would jump at...
...too quickly at a smoke and mirrors enterprise, would vote B.T.Barnum in as President. Oh, we already did that.
My Opinion is.......
..........that a referendom vote during the Presidential election would give you the best concensus of what VB residents desire. A vote later would not have near the turnout so the results would not show the true concensus of the majority of VB citizens. For the record I will vote for NO light rail whenever the referendom is held.
Forget the Referendum!
Just tell us me where to start digging and I will show up on weekends to help put it in!
Why are we so dead set against this, it has worked in every city I can think of, it is needed, and it is the only thing anyone has suggested to do to even come close to addressing our transportation issues!
As any one considered speeding up the study results
I am willing to bet that the study could be speeded up and the results reported in time for the election. The study is not based on future events so the data is already there, it just needs to be complied.
Frankly, for me, the results
Frankly, for me, the results of the study have taken on less importance than the actual experience of the Tide. We know the cost per mile of the Tide is the lowest in the nation. We know ridership in the first year has far exceeded projections, and if the trend continues, it will far exceed the number projected for year ten. The public has shown its support for light rail as demonstrated by the opening weekend when some 75,000 riders overwhelmed the 12 pathetic protestors from the moribund VBTA. Further, by December 31, the Tide will provide a direct connection at the LRT station at Harbor Park to connect to Amtrak passenger rail service to Richmond, DC, NYC, and Boston. Then, Hampton Roads will be connected, finally.
Amtrak
I'm looking forward to the Amtrak connection, but with the first Amtrak train leaving before the first Tide train pulls in? :/
More connections, yes please :)
