Not even if it was outside my window would I walk across the room to see it.
Memorial Visit
As soon as I vote for O'bama.
Visit
Will Jessie Jackson be there to speak?
Visit? Richmond? Memorial?
I'll answer your question, then please answer mine........No, I will not visit another memorial.
Now, please give me a reason as to why I should?
I wouldn't because I already visited the most important one...
The One in Memphis, TN. The converted Lorain Motel... DR. King, the only man that could truely be called "Reverand" in the civil rights movement and the only man who not only talked the talk but walked the walk...
wayneh91711 proves my point
He writes in part, "Only a racialist himself would bring this up.
Couldn't those who built the Memorial be considered "racialists?"
Let me inform you about something. Newspapers are infested with liberals. Liberals think everybody except liberals are stupid, racist, sexist, homophobes. And when a newspaper runs a poll the question asked is scrupulously debated. It's no coincidence the poll question was worded thus. If you have any doubt ask yourself this. Why even ask the question? Why not ask, "Have you visited the Civil Rights Memorial?" Or, "While in Richmond, would the Civil Rights Memorial be a place you'd consider visiting?" It's a "When did you stop beating your wife?" question.
No special trip to Richmond ...
Or to Norfolk either. If the monument was along my path, I’d stop to look at it, but nothing more.
As indicated previously, the Pilot tends to word its polls to generate (heated, racially motivated) discussion. It’s a newspaper, and it’s trying to create news.
Like it was also mentioned, does the fact that I won’t vote for Obama make me a racist? No. I’m not voting for Obama because he’s a flip-flopping liberal.
Richmond Memorial
Why would anyone feel guilty of being racial biases for not making a special trip to Richmond to see a memorial no matter what race of names are on it ? Only a racialist himself would bring this up.
Just as I wouldn't visit a
Just as I wouldn't visit a Confederate memorial or a Union memorial, I wouldn't visit this memorial. The reason for this is because it pertains to one group of people. Not the whole USA. If we are to become one in this country, it is time to stop pointing out and carrying on these kinds of memorials for they do nothing but continue to be divisive and harms any relations between this country.
We already have too many things pointing out the very distant past that many today have no idea of what it really means and have never been involved with. When is it time to move on and look forward?
As one saying goes, if you continue looking back, you lose sight of the future and just what you could have done and been to become a better person and make this a better world for yours and our kids.
How long is too long? The Viet Nam wall I have visited because these men and women , black , red, yellow, and white have given their lives for our country as ONE! This memorial only brings bad memories..when is it tome to make new and better ones?
Hope Presidential Elections results are the same???
Will you vote for Obama?????
Phrog
Your point will be lost on many. The fact that you would not make a special trip to Richmond is, in and of itself, a sign of what many at this paper would call "your hidden racial biases." Don't believe me? Fine.
What would be wrong with the question posed as such? "While in Richmond, would you visit the new civil rights memorial?"
I'll tell you what is wrong. It doesn't pigeon hole you into a sense of guilt. If you say "NO" you must have a hidden racial bias. Otherwise you would answer "YES" for the sake of racial harmony.
Still think I'm nuts? Watch what happens to your "realist" argument. Segregationist's sometimes referred to themselves as "Realists."
I'm not saying you are either racist or a segregationist. I'm warning you about your common sense approach to this loaded poll question. Good Luck.
Realist - Not racist
Actually, I answered NO because I'm a realist. I am not going to make a specific trip to Richmond just to see another memorial. I didn't make a specific trip to DC to see the WWII memorial so what makes this one different.
What a question.
Let me guess. If you answer "NO" you are a racist.
Question: What if I just don't want to visit Richmond? What does that make me?
