Just in from the Redskins:
Ashburn, VA – The Washington Redskins announce today that they have signed free agent safety Omar Stoutmire.
Stoutmire (5-11, 205), played in two games earlier this season with the Redskins but was released on October 1. He also spent the entire off-season with the team. Stoutmire played on defense and special teams in 12 games with the Redskins in 2005 including both postseason contests that year. In 2006 Stoutmire played in 13 games for New Orleans with nine starts for the Saints and recorded 56 total tackles, two interceptions and five passes defensed.
Stoutmire is a 10-year NFL veteran that was originally selected in the seventh round of the 1997 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys out of Fresno State.  He spent two seasons with the Cowboys before joining the NY Jets for one season in 1999. Stoutmire then went on to play five seasons with the New York Giants before joining Washington for the 2005 season.
For his career, Stoutmire has played in 133 games and recorded 418 total tackles and seven interceptions.  His best game with the Redskins during the 2005 season came in the team’s playoff victory in Tampa Bay where he recorded four tackles, one sack, and one pass defensed.
Stoutmire was an all-Western Athletic Conference choice as a senior at Fresno State. He set a school and conference record his junior season for total tackles with 198 stops on the season.
Stoutmire will wear #23.
