Maersk Line Ltd. adds two vessels

NORFOLK

Maersk Line Ltd. announced Tuesday that it has added two roll-on/roll-off vessels to its U.S.-flag fleet, the Alliance Norfolk and Alliance St. Louis.

The two ships will carry U.S. government and commercial cargo for the Norfolk-based shipping line in round-the-world service. Each vessel can carry the equivalent of 6,500 cars. The ships were built in the past three years for H?egh Autoliners and its U.S. affiliate Alliance Navigation. Each ship, like others in Maersk Line's fleet, will participate in the federal Maritime Security Program and Voluntary Intermodal Sealift Agreement.

Maersk Line Ltd. is the U.S. affiliate of the Danish shipping firm Maersk Line. Its fleet of U.S.-flag container, tanker, dry-bulk, multipurpose and roll-on/roll-off vessels transports more federal cargo in support of military and humanitarian missions and employs more U.S. merchant mariners than any other U.S. company.
