CHESAPEAKE

The city is expected to receive a gift of a 14-foot, 5-ton anchor Wednesday morning to grace the foot of the Great Bridge Bridge. A presentation ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the northwest end of the bridge on Battlefield Boulevard.

The anchor, which was cast in 1861, will arrive at its new home by flatbed truck. It will be part of a permanent display being created in the area by the Great Bridge Battlefield and Historic Waterways Foundation.

The anchor will sit across the street from the planned battlefield park and visitor center.
