A 19-year-old Oscar Smith High student was charged today with carrying a concealed weapon on school property, according to Chesapeake police.
Police charged Eric Marshburn of Kinglet Avenue in Portlock with carrying the concealed weapon on school property, possession of a stolen firearm, breaking and entering, two counts of grand larceny and misdemeanor vandalism.
Police said a school staff member received information from a city resident Tuesday morning that a student may be skipping school and had thrown an unknown object in a bush near her home. The area was searched and a loaded 9mm gun was found.
An investigation revealed the gun was stolen from a residence the night before, police said. After further questioning, it was determined the gun had been on school property before located, police said.
