A former Norfolk Academy coach is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Chesapeake Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Police said Ashley Samaniego had sex with a 17-year-old Norfolk Academy student after picking the teen up during her school’s prom. The girl had gone to the prom at the Norfolk school on April 12, a Saturday, according to a Chesapeake police affidavit.

Samaniego, a junior varsity girls basketball coach, drove to the prom and took the girl from the school, according to police. The two then drove back to the coach’s Chesapeake home in the 400 block of Blue Beech Way in the North Trail subdivision.

The girl told police “they engaged in consensual sex’’ in the coach’s bedroom, according to the police affidavit. The girl gave police a description of the two-story, single family home, the bedroom and furniture, police said.

Police executed a search warrant at the home this week to take pictures of the house to show were the offense occurred. Samaniego was arrested at her home 10 days after the alleged offense.

She was a part-time assistant coach at the school and no longer works there.
