Bedford grand jury indicts former Chesapeake educator in wife's murder

A Bedford County grand jury has indicted a former Great Bridge High School assistant principal on a murder charge in the December 2007 slaying of his wife.

The grand jury handed down indictments against 37-year-old Wesley Earnest on Tuesday for murder and use of a firearm in the commission of the offense, according to the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office in Bedford County. Earnest is facing prosecution on charges that he killed his 38-year-old wife, Jocelyn Earnest.

She was found dead in her Forest home on Dec. 20. She had been shot in the head.

Jocelyn Earnest filed for divorce in 2006 after 11 years of marriage, but the divorce was never finalized. Her husband was arrested Feb. 27 at a home in Rustburg in Bedford County. He was one of two assistant principals at the Chesapeake school.
