Tides' late rallies come up short in first game of doubleheader

George Kottaras hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning Saturday, helping the Pawtucket Red Sox beat the Norfolk Tides 4-2 in the first game of a doubleheader in Pawtucket, R.I.

Both games in the doubleheader were seven innings. The second game was not complete at press time.

Kottaras' blast, which broke a 1-1 tie, came off Tides starter Radhames Liz (0-4), who pitched a complete game.

Norfolk took a 1-0 lead in the second off former American League Cy Young winner Bartolo Colon. Brandon Fahey's two-out single scored Mike Costanzo, who singled earlier in the inning.

Costanzo doubled with two out in the sixth to score Oscar Salazar, making it 4-2. Omir Santos, the potential tying run, struck out to end that rally.

Norfolk put the tying run on base with one out in the seventh, but Luis Terrero flied out and Salazar popped out to end the game.
