Chesapeake council prepares to vote on real estate tax

CHESAPEAKE

Chesapeake council tonight will vote on a proposed $963.2 million budget.

The council will also vote on the real estate tax rate. City Manager William Harrell has proposed a 1 cent drop in the mosquito control commission tax rate. But because of economic conditions and existing priorities, Harrell has proposed no change in the real estate tax rate of $1.04 per $100 of assessed value.

The public will be able to comment on the budget and tax rate at 6:30 p.m. tonight at City Hall.
