IronPigs extend Tides' struggles

The Norfolk Tides' losing streak reached double digits Thursday night.

Gary Knotts pitched five strong innings to lead Lehigh Valley to a 4-2 victory in Allentown, Pa., handing the Tides their 10th straight defeat.

Scott Moore hit a two-run double in the top of the first inning to account for both of Norfolk's runs. After that, Knotts settled down and combined with three relievers to shut out the Tides the rest of the night.

The 10-game slide is Norfolk's longest since a franchise-record 13 straight defeats during the 1983 season.

Lehigh Valley, which owns the worst record in the International League at 11-31, scored single runs in the second, third and fourth innings to take the lead for good.

The IronPigs added an insurance run in the seventh.

Radhames Liz (0-5) suffered the loss for Norfolk, allowing three runs on seven hits in six innings.

The teams will wrap up their four-game series at 7:05 tonight (WSKY).
