Hearing held for Suffolk man charged with first-degree murder

SUFFOLK – A preliminary hearing was held in General District Court today for Paul Thompson, a man charged with first-degree murder after the burned body of Terry Lamont Wilson was found in a burned SUV near the Suffolk/Chesapeake line in late April.

The charge was certified to a grand jury after a judge heard testimony from a police detective who interviewed Thompson. He turned himself in to police more than a week after the body was found.

Thompson told police Det. J.M. Jones that, after drinking and doing drugs for most of the night, he awoke to find that Terry Lamont Wilson was attempting to have oral sex with him, Jones testified in court. Thompson said he tried to fight off Wilson’s advances then retrieved a .45 caliber weapon he was carrying and shot Wilson. He then poured gasoline over Wilson’s body and the vehicle and set the SUV on fire.

The grand jury will hear the details of the crime later this month.
