Police have identified a man killed in a single-vehicle accident in York County on Wednesday.

Michael Francis Dougherty, 45, was killed after he ran off the road in the 500 block of Orianna Road at 4:15 p.m., less than a mile north of the Newport News city line, said Sgt. Michelle Cotten, a Virginia State Police spokeswoman. Dougherty, of the 900 block of Bellgate Court in Newport News, was driving a 1999 Mercury Mystique.

Cotten said the weather was not a factor in the accident, but that speed was a factor.
