Getting passed by Dale Earnhardt while on memory lane

Rusty Wallace recounted a story about NASCAR's first tire test at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 1992. Wallace wanted to be the first car on the track, so he asked series officials if he could have that honor. They allowed him by lining the cars up by number. That put Wallace in the No. 2 first. But behind him was Dale Earnhardt.

"So I pull out onto the track and I'm looking around and going, "Wow, this is great,' '' Wallace said. "And then I come down the back straight and all of a sudden I hear this big noise and I go, "What in the world?' Here comes Earnhardt ... right past me. And I say, "That sucker is going to try to lead the first lap.'

"So we come off turn four, we're side by side, we're banging doors and he beats me to the freaking line by about two car lengths. He said, "You were the first on on the track but I was the first one to lead a lap.''

# The Indianapolis Star reports that the United States Auto Club (USAC) is investigating an incident Tony Stewart had during Thursday night's midget race at O'Reilly Raceway Park. Reports stated Stewart shoved an official when USAC did not provide a push truck for one of Stewart's cars after it made a pit stop. Stewart admitted he had an "altercation'' with the official.

# Clint Bowyer enters this weekend 13th in the points, 27 points out of the last transfer spot for the Chase. He admits he's anxious about his postion.

"A very nerve wrecking time right now, very worried about making the Chase and trying to be a part of it,'' he said.

Bowyer admits he's more nervous because he made the Chase last year and knows what it means to be a part of it. "You’ve been a part of the banquet and everything else and seen all the attention and hype around that.  You want to be a part of that.''
