School Board candidate Patrick Salyer is getting a campaign push from the highest-ranking Republican in the state tomorrow night.
Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling will be headlining a 6:30 p.m. fundraiser for Salyer at the Westin Hotel in Virginia Beach's Town Center. Tickets are $75 a pop.
Salyer, a Navy veteran whose wife, Cecilia, teaches Spanish at Tallwood High School, is running for one of two seats in the At Large race.
He proposes that Beach schools spend at least 65 percent of their budget in the classroom, including teacher salaries. "It's a goal we can achieve with incremental pay raises," he said. According to statistics from Bolling's office, Salyer said the Beach spends a smaller proportion of its budget in the classroom than most other school divisions in the state.
Salyer said he's known Bolling for "quite a while" through Republican Party functions and from when Bolling spoke at Regent University's Executive Leadership Series.
