A peek at NASCAR's future?

The Drive for Diveristy program, which provides minority drivers with racing opportunities, will hold its sixth combine Oct. 13-14 at South Boston Speedway. The program, which has support from NASCAR, has tried to identify candidates and give them chances to race in Late Model series and such.

So far the program has not had a driver make it to NASCAR's top levels yet. Paul Harraka is the only driver in the progam's history to win a Late Model track championship, claiming a title this year in California.

Twenty-six drivers, chosen from among more than 200 applicants, will compete in the combine. They'll drive Camping World East series cars. The plan is for 14 drivers to be selected for rides next year _ four in the Camping World Series and 10 in the Whelen All-American Series.
