If you missed last night’s soccer tournament, you missed something that was very good.
A regular season trophy went to the Girls’ Blair Clippers, for a 7-0 season.
Ruffner was #3 for the season, with a 5-2 year.
Each player was announced. The national anthem played.
In the first half #7 for Blair was hurt so bad, she was carried off the field, bandaged up and put on crutches till the end of the game.
During the second half, one of Ruffner’s girls was hurt and had to be removed from the field. The goalie took a hit to the face, and then suffered a severe muscle spasm while kicking the ball. These girls played hard!
Blair’s girls managed to keep an undefeated season, winning 5-0 and have won the tournament since 1996. Way to go Blair’s girls!
Next up was Azalea Gardens Rockets, the boys’ #2 season winner, with a season of 6-1. They played against Blair’s Clippers boys’ team, which was #1 with an undefeated season of 7-0.
Blair’s boys also received a regular season trophy.
This was an exciting game. At the end of the first half, the score was 0-0. At the end of the second half 0-0.
Blair’s girls made the game seem effortless. The boys were like watching a football game. You were on the edge of your seat.
With a score of 0-0, they boys had to participate in a tie-in regulation in a 5 shot shootout. Wouldn’t you know it, the scoring was perfect. It went like this, 0-0, 1-1, 2-2, 0-0, 3-3 then 0-0. This was even more intense than the game.
With a tie of 3-3, the boys went into a sudden death shootout. Azalea made their first kick. Blair, did not. We watched as Blair’s #7 player fell to the ground in despair. After a flawless year, Blair lost on a single kick.
Even though I was rooting for Blair, I must send my congratulations out to Azaleas boys. You guys played a nice game. You also managed to take away a tournament win that the boys have held title to since 1996. Now that’s an accomplishment.
