Ages: 9-14, boys and girls Time: 9:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. Contact Bob Carroll @ 804-721-8806 for more information. Drop-Off and Pick-Up Location: Lynnhaven River Inlet and vicinity. Overview: The Virginia Beach Fishing Camp offers fun, hands-on activities that will give young anglers and marine biologists the chance to catch every species of sea creature that lives in the Lynnhaven River with nets, traps, bank fishing and kayak fishing. Activities include: • Catch fish, crabs, shrimp, oysters and clams using seine nets, cast nets, crab traps, eel traps, minnow traps, fishing poles, shovels and sieves. • Explore saltmarsh, tidal creek, oyster reef, sand-flat, Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean surf zone habitats. • Learn how to kayak or improve your sea kayak skills during at least three days of kayaking and kayaks fishing. • Learn how to fish, or improve your fishing skills, with the help of fishing experts. • Learn fishing knots, lures and bait rig set-ups. • Fish for salt water game fish in a variety of places using the skills we learn in camp. • Observe the catch from a commercial fishing operation being unloaded and investigate the species of fish caught in the pound nets at the mouth of the Bay. • Analyze marine charts to know out where game fish can be found. • Enjoy fun team-building activities as we make life-long friends.
