This was from a couple days ago, but I figured it'd be a good weekend post. The Sporting News did its annual ranking of all of the Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches. Virginia Tech's Frank Beamer came in ninth overall and was the top coach in the ACC. Follow me on Twitter and Facebook. Here's the blurb it had about Beamer, who is 209-98-2 with the Hokies:
Twenty-one Virginia Tech football players walked in today's graduation ceremony at Lane Stadium. Although First Lady Michelle Obama was the keynote speaker, U.S. Sen. Mark Warner played to the football-loving crowd during his speech, saying, "Danny Coale, no matter what those officials said, you caught that ball."
It's a somber day at Virginia Tech on the fifth anniversary of the April 16 shootings, although it's a reminder of the resiliency of the school and town as they push forward but never forget such an unspeakable tragedy.
Virginia Tech football coach Frank Beamer's literary foundation and a national non-profit organization will provide 32,000 new books to kids from low-income families across the state. Beamer's foundation, Herma’s Readers, will undertake the project in conjunction with First Book, a national non-pofit that provides books to kids in need. Follow me on Twitter.
I ran Part I of my Q&A with Hokies quarterbacks coach and play-caller Mike O'Cain yesterday. If you missed it, you can read it here. Now for Part II, where he talks a little bit more specifically about personnel. Follow me on Twitter.
Remember that Q&A I tweeted about last week with quarterbacks coach Mike O'Cain? Well, now that the combine stuff is over, I finally have the time to post it. Like the ones I did with Bud Foster and Bryan Stinespring, I'll split this one into two parts. The first is more about play-calling in general. The second has more to do with personnel.
Those who can't make it out for Virginia Tech's spring game on April 21 will be able to watch it on the Internet. The Hokies announced that their annual Maroon vs. White game will be broadcast on ESPN3 as an online-only production. Fans can access it through ESPN3.com.
With the Bowl Championship Series on the precipice of change amid proposals for an overhaul to college football's postseason, Virginia Tech athletic director Jim Weaver said Friday that he still prefers a plus-one model.
I wrote about Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer appearing on a "Dan Rather Reports" special about Army veteran and football hopefulDaniel Rodriguez yesterday. Not a lot of people get HDNET, apparently, but it's up on YouTube in two parts if you're interested. Here it is:
If you haven't heard about Daniel Rodriguez's story, it's a good one.
