NORFOLK The new school superintendent will make more money than any other school administrator in South Hampton Roads and will have a base salary larger than that of Norfolk City Manager Marcus Jones.

NORFOLK Norfolk's next superintendent bucked a "good old boy" system in Rockdale County, Ga., using constant scrutiny of student performance and new programs to raise test scores and graduation rates, the county's school board vice chairwoman said Tuesday.

Parents who don't collaborate with the division when their child egregiously violates attendance or behavior rules could end up in court under a policy the School Board will now enforce.
"Parents are not responding to these issues appropriately, whether it's attending hearings" or showing accountability for their unruly child, School Board Chairman Kirk Houston said.

The School Board's depiction of Superintendent Richard Bentley's abrupt departure as a mutual agreement last month may have been a public relations tactic, according to a division document.
Bentley’s termination contract, dated Nov. 14, states that:
