The date has been set. Let the wake begin. Jon Stewart, 52, announced this week that his tenure as host of "The Daily Show" ends Aug. 6, closing out a 16-year run as the country's most respected political satirist. A lot has been made of Trevor Noah (story on page 9), the 31-year-old South African chosen to fill his seat. Most of it (deservedly) critical.

SEVEN YEARS IS a long time for a band to go without recording a debut album. But Norfolk-based Major and the Monbacks had two very good reasons for putting off their first full-length effort (they did release an EP earlier): They've been on the road a lot, and recording is really expensive.
