The following government agencies and offices will be closed or observe changes in their schedules for Veterans Day:
Courts and municipal offices
Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk and Virginia Beach Most city offices and courts will be closed Wednesday.
Financial institutions
Most bank and credit unions will be closed Wednesday. Contact specific institutions.
VIRGINIA BEACH The Virginia Beach SPCA will offer discounts to veterans on pet adoptions Wednesday.
Adoption fees for all veterans will be 50 percent off for dogs 5 and older and for all cats and kittens. Fees for all other dogs and puppies will be $25 off. The offer runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 3040 Holland Road. For more information, call (757) 427-0070 ext. 41.

Motorists and passersby along Pughsville Road now have a vivid reminder of the sacrifices that have been made and are still being made by U.S. servicemen and women, thanks to a "good turn " by Caleb M. Polston, Troop 212, Boy Scouts of America.
By Stacy Parker Correspondent OCEANFRONT A Veterans Day ceremonial event will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Tidewater Veterans Memorial. Its title is "Be Proud America - Fly the Flag!" The annual Tidewater Veterans Day Parade will begin at 9 a.m. at 16th Street and Atlantic Avenue and will end at the Memorial on 19th Street across from the Virginia Beach Convention Center.

VIRGINIA BEACH The 19 cadets in Valerie McQueen-Vance's class had already done more than 6,000 pushups together in the previous 90 minutes. But even though their arms had flushed pink and turned numb, Cadet Jasiah Crossley, 16, called on his classmates to drop and do 15 more each.
CHESAPEAKE Chesapeake will honor all members of the U.S. armed forces from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday in observance of Veterans Day. The ceremony, sponsored by the Mayor's Commission on Veterans Affairs, will include a wreath-laying and paver installation at the Veterans' Memorial, 306 Cedar Road in the Municipal Center. The event is free and open to the public.
