Ron Johnson, the new manager of the Norfolk Tides, lets 10 horses, six dogs and two cats patrol his 35-acre spread in the tiny central-Tennessee town of Morrison. The only thing missing? Why, another horse, or dog or cat of course. "Hey, we're animal lovers," Johnson said Wednesday of his wife, Daphane, and their combined brood of five. "That's what we are."
NORFOLK The Norfolk Tides will host the Baltimore Orioles in an exhibition game at Harbor Park at 3 p.m. April 4. Tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. March 10. Box seats will cost $22 and reserved seats $18. Fans will be able to purchase tickets at norfolktides.com or the Harbor Park box office.
DENVER The Colorado Rockies acquired veteran right-hander Jeremy Guthrie from the Baltimore Orioles on Monday, a move that bolsters their young rotation.
In exchange, the Rockies sent reliever Matt Lindstrom and right-hander Jason Hammel to the Orioles.
NORFOLK The Norfolk Tides and their parent club, the Baltimore Orioles, announced Norfolk's coaching staff for 2012. Ron Johnson replaces Gary Allenson as manager, while Mike Griffin will serve as pitching coach and Denny Walling as hitting coach. Johnson served as Boston's first base coach during the last two seasons after managing Triple-A Pawtucket from 2005-09.
BALTIMORE Infielder Robert Andino and the Baltimore Orioles agreed Wednesday to a $1.3 million, one-year contract that triples his salary from $421,500. The agreement was at the midpoint between the $1.6 million Andino had asked for in arbitration last week and the $1 million the Orioles had offered.
Three local Little League fields will be chosen for renovation by the Norfolk Tides' groundskeepers and front-office staff in a contest, the team announced Thursday. To enter the contest, email Heather McKeating at hmckeating@norfolktides.com with a picture of your field and a short letter explaining why your league should be chosen. The deadline for entries is Feb. 15.
The Norfolk Tides released their 2012 schedule on Tuesday and will open the season on Thursday, April 5, at Charlotte. Norfolk's first home game is April 9 against Gwinnett, part of a seven-game homestand.

ST. LOUIS Game 6 of the World Series has been postponed because of a rainy forecast.
Major League Baseball announced the decision about 4½ hours before the Texas Rangers and St. Louis Cardinals were set to play Wednesday at Busch Stadium.
Texas leads the Series 3-2. Game 6 is now set for Thursday night at 8:05 p.m. EDT. If Game 7 is necessary, it would be played Friday night.
