Torrential downpours moved through Hampton Roads this afternoon, resulting in Norfolk, Portsmouth, Chesapeake and Virginia Beach being under a flash flood warning earlier Saturday, according to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, Va.

Hurricane Bill weakens to a Category 3 storm

MIAMI Hurricane Bill has weakened slightly to a Category 3 storm as it roars over the open Atlantic.

Bill's maximum sustained winds had decreased to 125 mph early this morning. But forecasters at the National Hurricane Center in Miami say Bill could strengthen and become a Category 4 storm again.

U.S. forecasters lower Atlantic hurricane outlook

MIAMI Government forecasters are lowering their outlook for this Atlantic hurricane season after a quiet start with no named storms so far.

The National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration today updated its forecast for the six-month season that runs from June through November. The peak months are August through October.

Virginia asks for memories of 1969's Hurricane Camille

The state wants to hear from Virginians who were around 40 years ago when Hurricane Camille killed 153 people in the state.

The Virginia Department of Emergency Management said it is collecting memories of the storm and its aftermath. They will be posted on a Web page: www.virginiaemergency.com

Storms knock out power to more than 14,000

Thunderstorms that rolled through Hampton Roads Wednesday afternoon knocked out power to more than 14,200 Dominion Virginia Power customers.

Shortly before 11 p.m. about 200 were still without electricity.

Storm knocks down trees, tears siding off buildings

Hampton Roads and northeastern North Carolina saw scattered thunderstorms Sunday evening that left damage in Suffolk and other parts of the region. Storms produced strong winds, hail and heavy downpours. Mary Fortner of Ashford Drive in the Berkshire Meadows subdivision of Suffolk was in her two-story home with her husband and daughter when the storm hit.

Storm dumps a month's rain on some parts of Hampton Roads

Some parts of Hampton Roads got as much rain Thursday night as they’d see in the entire month, soaking water-logged lawns and forcing drivers to creep along flooded roads, according to the National Weather Service.
