Virginia Beach gallery owners flooded with help

A few minutes past 6 p.m. on Oct. 23, Thalia Station 7 firefighter Hope Scott responded to an emergency call from Jones Art Gallery. A line break was spewing hundreds of gallons of water into the gallery on the ground floor of the Armada Hoffler building.
The station's crew jumped into action.

Video: Breast cancer survivors model at fundraiser

NORFOLK
About 20 breast cancer survivors were models in a fashion show Saturday night to raise money for Beyond Boobs!, a nonprofit group in Virginia that promotes breast health education.
“This is very healing for us ... to make everyone else aware that being diagnosed with breast cancer is not a death sentence,” said Charlene Cattoi of Virginia Beach, one of the models.

VIRGINIA BEACH Socks, a 2-year-old shepherd mix, donned a multi colored banda na and put on his best show. He chased a tennis ball, gave out free kisses and greeted everyone who passed by in the hopes of sniffing out a new family to take him home.

A fashion show of local breast cancer survivor models will be held from 6:30 to midnight tonight, Nov. 7, at the Mariott Norfolk Waterside.
The show, sponsored by The Hague Center for Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery, Inc., will include a cash bar, hors d'oeuvres, music, silent auction and car raffle. All proceeds to benefit Beyond Boobs! Inc.
 

Veteran's Day in Chesapeake

CHESAPEAKE Chesapeake will honor all members of the U.S. armed forces from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday in observance of Veterans Day. The ceremony, sponsored by the Mayor's Commission on Veterans Affairs, will include a wreath-laying and paver installation at the Veterans' Memorial, 306 Cedar Road in the Municipal Center. The event is free and open to the public.

Virginia Beach's Carraway House up for sale

Glimpsing the Carraway House these days, passersby probably have little idea how the traffic-clogged area used to look when the home was built in the 1730s. Back then, the wood frame house sat on an 80-acre property that was part of the village of Kempsville. The building will soon be up for sale, for anyone interested in owning a house with history.
