Peregrine falcons like to winter in Va. Beach

Now that the Oceanfront peregrine falcon is back for the winter and roosting on its favorite "rocky ledges" at the Virginia House, pigeons are scarce. "We never see a pigeon when she's around" said Virginia House manager Cassie Gronda.

By Stacy Parker Correspondent OCEANFRONT A Veterans Day ceremonial event will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Tidewater Veterans Memorial. Its title is "Be Proud America - Fly the Flag!" The annual Tidewater Veterans Day Parade will begin at 9 a.m. at 16th Street and Atlantic Avenue and will end at the Memorial on 19th Street across from the Virginia Beach Convention Center.

There's nothing particularly gay about Lady Gaga, Prince and REM, some of the music airing on glbtliveradio.com, a new Hampton Roads Internet radio station. But co-founder Philip Deal says that glbt - short for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender - aims to be the local gay community's new forum.

Slimy, hermaphroditic slugs: A love story

The love life of slugs was not something I had ever thought about until Nancy Leavitt sent some photos of two amorous slugs on her front porch.

In all the photos, the slugs were wrapped around one another in graceful, most un-slug-like poses.

Shriners back with a second wind for a parade

OCEANFRONT If you missed the Shriners Parade last weekend, no worries. Another one will be held Saturday. It begins at 9 a.m. at 17th Street and continues to 31st Street along Atlantic Avenue. Virginia Beach is the site of both Mid Atlantic Shrine Association (MASA) and the South Atlantic Shrine Association (SASA) conventions this year.
