Driver killed, passenger hurt in Deep Creek crash

CHESAPEAKE

One man was killed and another man was injured when the car they were in ran off the road and struck a tree in Deep Creek early this morning, police said. Paul William Heron, 26, of the 3200 block of Cooks Mill Road, died. The passenger, also 26, was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with serious injuries. Neither man was wearing a seatbelt, police said.

NORFOLK A Chesapeake man pleaded guilty Thursday in federal court to charges of transportation of child pornography and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Neal Assad Sabra, 45, will be sentenced June 18, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Virginia.

CHESAPEAKE A judge on Thursday sentenced a man convicted of robbing a Deep Creek pharmacy to 21 years in prison. Circuit Judge Randy Smith sentenced David W. Sawyer, 37, in accordance with the jury's recommendation for robbing prescription drugs from a Walgreens store in January 2009. A jury convicted him in November of robbery and possession of two prescription painkillers.

Chesapeake man bitten in attack by service monkey

Police say a capuchin monkey attacked its 60-year-old owner when the man stepped on his tail Wednesday.
Suffering from several bites, the man put the monkey in his cage and went to a neighbor's house on Washington Drive, where he called for help about 6 p.m.
The man was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

CURRITUCK COUNTY, N.C. Authorities looking for a marijuana grow operation uncovered bomb-making materials in a Currituck County home on Wednesday.

Daniel Allen Robinson was arrested in Chesapeake on charges of assembling and possessing a weapon of mass destruction, according to a report on WVEC.com.

Trial opens for Chesapeake man accused of bank robberies

NORFOLK A federal trial opened Tuesday against a Chesapeake man accused of a dozen bank robberies in what a prosecutor described as "an odyssey of violence and fear" that culminated in a high-speed police chase and shooting. Leonard Earl Roulhac, 39, faces 30 felony counts of bank robbery, attempted bank robbery, using a gun during a felony and being a convicted felon with a gun.
