Monster Jam rolls through Hampton today

The show must roll on, as they say in the monster truck biz. (And if they don't they should.) This weekend's Monster Jam event will feature El Toro Loco, Mopar Magic, Bad Habit, Eradicator and local favorites Stone Crusher and Grave Digger. A 'pit party' will be held from 5 to 6:45 p.m. for ticketholders. The actual show starts at 7:30 p.m.

Langley closing gates, limiting personnel for weather

Two gates will be closed in the morning at Langley Air Force Base as a result of coastal flooding.

In the early morning hours of Thursday, access to the base will be limited through the LaSalle Avenue and NASA gates, according to a news release from the 1st Fighter Wing public affairs office. The King Street and Armistead gates will be closed.

Ex-student gets 14 years in Hampton U. shootings

HAMPTON A former student who shot and wounded two people at Hampton University will spend 14 years in prison.

Prosecutors say 19-year-old Greg Odane Maye shot a pizza delivery driver, a night watchman at a dorm and then himself in April. Both victims have since recovered.

Dead whale found on Buckroe Beach in Hampton

HAMPTON A necropsy will be performed today on the body of a 12-foot-long whale that washed ashore on Buckroe Beach in Hampton.

The Virginia Aquarium Stranding Response Team says a motorist driving by the beach Sunday spotted the body and called authorities.

Crash backs up eastbound I-64 at HRBT

A crash inside the tube of the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel closed the eastbound lanes of Interstate 64 for a while on Friday evening.

Traffic on I-64 east heading from the Peninsula to South Hampton Roads was detoured onto Interstate 664 south, said Lauren Hansen, a spokeswoman for the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Missing Hampton woman, 84, returns home

Police said an 84-year-old woman who was reporting missing after she had not been seen since Tuesday evening has returned home.

Flossie Bowers, of the 2500 block of Kecoughtan Road, returned home last night, police wrote in a news release.
